The Asaph Project equips worship leaders and pastors to lead their congregations with the beauty and depth of God-centered worship.
The church once stood at the forefront of creating music that was true, good, and beautiful—music that inspired creativity, taught people to sing, and formed them in the knowledge of God. Today, church leaders and attenders alike often have limited exposure to songs that are both theologically rich and inclusive for all generations.
A Note from the Founder
For nearly three decades, I have been a recording artist, primarily in the Christian music space. A significant portion of my Sunday mornings have been spent leading worship—sometimes prior to a concert, sometimes for a short residency or more long-term as a regular worship leader in a church. I am currently a full-time worship leader at Redeemer Church, Lincoln Square in New York City. When I attended seminary under the late Dr. Tim Keller and many other excellent professors, I learned to think more deeply about how we worship on Sundays—from how we pray to what we sing.
As both a recording artist and a worship leader, I’ve seen how much weight our music carries. What we sing on a Sunday morning is our portable theology—it's what we're going to remember on a Tuesday afternoon when everything falls apart.
That weight is what is compelling me to build The Asaph Project. As I’ve travelled the world, leading and listening to people raising their voices in song, I’ve discovered that much of what we hand our congregations to sing is written for a stage, not a sanctuary—for a professional singer rather than a group of ordinary people ages seven to seventy who need a melody they can all sing together. And too often, the lyrics are not centered on Christ and His goodness, truth, and beauty, but on us and our needs.
Asaph was King David's worship leader, commanded to lead God’s people in worship through songs full of beauty and truth. My hope is that The Asaph Project gives worship leaders and pastors the tools to lead their congregations with songs that are true, good, beautiful and singable, to give our hearts the joy of Jesus until we meet Him face to face.
